A Bad Week

This has been one bad week. Last Wednesday Bryan was arrested for unlawfully possessing a firearm. He was getting it back from a friend that was selling it for him and got pulled over by the police, who promptly took him to jail. Today is the second detention hearing to see if he gets to come home. I hope he does. Then we can work on getting his charges dropped from the felony Theft of a Firearm to minor in possession of a firearm, which is a misdemeanor.
Second, Moose has parvo and is having to stay at the vet until they get rid of it. Cleo isn't showing signs of it so far, but we are watching her closely.
Between the two things, my chest hurts and I am not sleeping well at all, and forget about being able to eat. It hasn't been a good week at all.

Where Have the Years Gone?

Sean is a senior in high school this year. As I let him drive me to his school on the first day of classes, I looked over at my almost an adult son and wondered where is the little boy that was so afraid of tornadoes that every time there were thunderstorms he hid, and where did the skinny little unicycle rider go, the one that almost gave me a heart attack when he would fall off that thing that was almost as tall as he was. Where did my little baby go, the one whose first word was not Mama or Dada, but "Taz" because my husband surrounded him with every baby Taz thing he could find. Where did the time go and why do I feel like somehow it has left me behind? Now he is waiting for his letter jacket with the varsity theater and orchestra letters and the patch made just for his magnet school that makes him one of the elite. I am so proud of him, yet I still want to know where my little boy went and when did this almost man get here? Of course, there is a little child left, with the squid hat and the Bowzer hat he got last week. Soon though, he will go too, and he will be grown.

Ah the Drama

Robin Williams committed suicide because of depression and because he didn't want to put his family through him declining with Parkinson's. The hashtag advocacy of #ALSIceBucketChallenge is setting people off on how it is wasting water in California and doing nothing for ALS (except raise awareness and boatloads of money for research). I know there will always be people out there who have no compassion and who look down on those who do, but if you are one of those people, please do those of us with a heart a favor and stay under your rock. I like having faith that there are good people out there who want to help, and think that yes, suicide is sad and hurts, but in some cases it is the love of the person who takes their own life for their own family or friends. I know this isn't a popular belief, and I will possibly lose friends for this, but face it, it is what it is, a choice. For those that think that Robin Williams took the coward's way out, have you ever seen someone with Parkinson's? My mom had it and it killed her. I think Robin Williams was brave. Yes, it hurt his family and the world to lose him, but it saved all of us from watching a wonderful man and actor disintegrate in front of our eyes, leaving us with that as a memory instead of the laughter and joy he brought us all. A little compassion folks, that's all. And maybe a check and a bucket of ice :)

We are Grandparents!

As of Thursday the 14th at 11:20 pm, Marshall and I are officially the proud grandparents of a beautiful baby girl! Her name is Tara Rhiannon, she weighed 7 lbs 8 oz, and was 19 1/2 inches long. She is a good baby, she sleeps a lot, and already has her grandpa wrapped around her little finger. She also

has her daddy around said finger. I am lucky if I get to hold her if Marshall is there. I am really glad she is here and can't wait until she is big enough to play with. Right now she is just being a lap baby, but that is fine with all of us. We love holding her and loving on her.

The More Things Change...

Last week, Heather was taken out of work and put on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy due to having mild pre-eclampsia.  The doctor gave her the two steroid shots in the event they have to deliver Tara early. Heather and Sean will be moving in with my mother in law one day this week. This is because Sean doesn't make enough to cover the rent in their apartment without Heather working.
Marshall is at the doctor today to try to get some pain med that actually work. Two weeks ago he was given shots in his back and steroids in his hip and those did nothing but put him in more pain, so now he is hoping that the doctor will give him meds that might work this time. I am starting to doubt anything will work except surgery.
My mother in law's puppy Buddha died this morning from some form of poison. We think he got a hold of a rat or something that had died and it poisoned him. This is the second dog in our family that has died like this since we moved back from North Carolina. Zoey was the first one three years ago.
We have a new kitten named Bartholomew, Bart for short. He is one of Heather's cat's babies. We will be getting his brother Hercules when she moves, along with our former cat Smoke. Stevie and Riven will be going with them to my mother in law's.
School starts on the 25th of August. I have been getting everything ready for Bryan's GED prep work. He will be taking the test when he is 17, so I have this year and next to get him ready.

Hello Summer

Three more days and school will be over for Sean and he will be a Senior. I can't believe the time has gone by so fast.
Ian will be home from his month in Florida on Friday. Marshall and Mavis are having a birthday party on Saturday, so he gets in right on time for that.
Bree has been back in Laurel Ridge since the police took her for being suicidal on Friday. This is twice now in a matter of a month. She is really not stable. Of course, she is chasing Bryan and her being 27 and he being 15 makes that obvious. I will really be glad when she is out of the picture for good.
Marshall is not doing any better on his back and hip. He goes for MRIs on Thursday and a follow-up with the pain doctor on Wednesday.
Mercury goes retrograde on Saturday. I don't need that. My life is chaotic and drama-laden enough.
Last month I made a batch of the berry brew. It will be fully done at the end of July. I am hoping it might help Marshall where other things have failed him. It seems that traditional medicine isn't going to fix the problem, so we might as well look elsewhere.

Got the Garden In!

Spring is finally here and a few days ago I put out my garden plants. This year I am growing basil, thyme, rosemary, mint, bell peppers, tomatoes, and crookneck squash. I am thinking about adding some dill and oregano and sage and perhaps some carrots too. I really like container gardening because it makes the garden adjustable, in the event I need more sun on some plants.
Today Ian has an appointment with his therapist. He was in Laurel Ridge last month and has to see a therapist now to make sure his mind is where it needs to be. He is also on Seroquel. As soon as he can get the math part of the GED passed he is going to enlist in the Army. I can't say I am really happy about it, but I can't spend the rest of my life worrying about his decisions. He has to do what he thinks is right for him.
Seanie got a job at Harbor Freight. Today is his first day. He will be a cashier. I am pretty sure he will have fun, especially since they are paying him $8 an hour.
Bree has officially moved in at Mavis', but still spends a lot of time over here and with Bryan. We went to take her pup Dexter to the groomer this morning, but they weren't open, so he has to go tomorrow.
Marshall has been told he has bursitis in his hip and has to do physical therapy for it. The meds they gave him aren't helping, so he has to call his doctor today to try to get pain meds.
That's about it for now. Have a great week everyone!

And Again We Are Off on a Homeschool Adventure

Bryan wasn't doing well at the school he began the year in, so Marshall decided to take him out again. This time it's for good. Bryan will be starting on a GED program that should get him his GED by 2016. He wants to go into auto mechanics, so I am going to get him the Chilton manuals for all of our cars and his grandma's cars and let him see what he can do. Of course Marshall will be supervising him so he doesn't mess up anything, but he should learn a lot from those books.
Our insurance goes into effect in two days and Marshall and Bryan both have doctor's appointments soon after. I will be glad when Marshall can get some pain relief. He has been miserable for a long time now.
Boo got baby sonogram pictures! The baby is really small still, but looks healthy, though we can't tell the gender quite yet.
Ian messed up his knee at work tonight, so he is out until he can get the insurance to get him in to see one of his company's doctors.
Sean started Driver's Ed classes on the 10th. He should have his license by April if everything goes well.
Jess and her boyfriend David are no longer together and she is back in San Antonio living in her old apartment with her friends Kevin and Jackie.
As for me, I am wishing Spring would get here so I can plant my garden. I am tired of cold weather. This morning my windshield was iced over when I left to take Sean to school. It has also been raining, which we needed, but I have problems driving in.
My car is going into the shop within a week or so because the whole front end is messed up. It squeals, it grinds, it has bad brakes and suspension and the power steering is shot. So I will be driving my mom's old Buick for a while. I am very blessed to have another car to drive.
Well, that's about it for the news for February. Have a great one, folks :)

January is Almost Gone

Seems I can't update more that once a month :) I really need to try harder, I guess. Last Friday we got a tiny bit of snow and some ice, so the schools and highways shut down. Tuesday it was really cold, but no ice. The rest of the month has been nice for the most part, weather-wise.
I am going to officially be a grandma! Heather is pregnant and it looks like she is due sometime in September. No official date yet because she is waiting to get her insurance card. I am thrilled. Marshall is too, but won't admit it.
Shadow is getting a lot bigger. She spends her days in here in the office with me, usually asleep or on my desk or asleep on my desk. Right now she is bathing herself on my desk.
I can't wait for Spring. Marshall got the area for my garden fenced in with chain-link and all it needs now are the pebbles. I am doing containers this year instead of raised beds so I can move them around if need be. I made two crystal and stone charms for the fence yesterday. I need more glass beads and crystals to make a few more. I want it to be beautiful and magical out there. I am also making some glass pebble lanterns to go on posts between the planters. I think that will be nice to look at.
  Have a good one everyone!
