Over the Weekend

Things are getting a lot better for Jess. She was finally diagnosed with Crohn's disease, so now they know what to treat. She will still have the ileostomy, but only for about 6 months. She is back to eating normal food again and is loving it. The docs have changed her meds so she is only on one antibiotic now and it looks like she will be released on Friday. We have a lot to do before then to get the house ready.

This Week at the Hospital

Monday Jess had to undergo another surgery. Late Sunday night her drain had some stuff in it that the doctors were worried about so they ordered a CT with contrast on Monday morning. It showed a lot of infection, so they went back in. Her abdominal cavity was filled with pus and they ended up putting in an ileostomy to give her intestines a break. They also took out the area of her intestines that they repaired because it had a leak and couldn't be repaired properly. She will have the ileostomy for 6-12 months. She is not happy about it at all. Yesterday she slept the entire time we were there. She needs the rest.
Today Marshall and I stayed home. Him because of his back, me because I needed an emotional break. I am starting to feel the everyday trip to the hospital stress. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Saturday at the Hospital

Today we took three of the other kids to see Jess in the afternoon. Heather, Sean, and Bryan went. Ian was at home sleeping off his night's graveyard shift. When we got there Jess was awake but not for long. She dozed in and out during the two hours we were there. The CAT scan last night showed no internal bleeding, which is really good. She is still really pale though, and is weak and is still in a lot of pain. Seeing her like this is really upsetting for all of us, especially me and Marshall. He is not going tomorrow. I will go for a while, but plan to sit in the chapel some too. I need the time with just me and God.

Update on Jess

Yesterday we were at the hospital until 5. They removed Jess' eng tube late morning and then did an echocardiogram. After looking at the echo, the docs think there is a chance the infection moved into Jess' heart. This is not good. Today Marshall went to the hospital with Ian and I am staying home with Bryan. I really feel like he has been neglecting his school work since I have been at the hospital all week. That and I need a break.

Back to the Hospital

Jess went into the hospital two days ago because she was running a fever and her back has been really hurting. At around 10 PM on Monday she called us and said she was in the Er and wanted us to come down. We went and it turns out that she had a group of abcesses in her abdominal cavity that had gunked up her intestine, her ovary and fallopian tube and appendix on the right side. Yesterday the doctors performed surgery, removing her appendix and clearing out most of the infection along with a bunch of necrotic tissue from where the infection had put a hole in her colon. The also put in a drain from her abdominal cavity to her thigh in case more infection is there. It took almost 6 1/2 hours. She went back to the ICU for the night and should be put into a room later today. Marshall and I were there for over 12 hours yesterday and today looks like it is going to be another long one.
